2. Premium Traditional Hand Sharpening (Palo Alto & Redwood City)

For specialty blades, premium culinary cutlery, and classic edge restoration, we offer old-fashioned, master-level manual sharpening.
  • Expertise: Hand-sharpened by Mark, a resident master technician who has been sharpening knives in the Bay Area for more than 30 years and partnering with Hassett Hardware for over 20 years.

  • How it Works: Drop off your blades at our Palo Alto or Redwood City stores. Contact the store directly for current sharpening hours, pricing sheets, turnaround windows and pickup schedules. Mark can be found in Palo Alto on Saturdays from 10AM – 4PM and Redwood City on Sundays from 11AM – 4PM, though his schedule can change at the last minute, so it’s best to call in advance.

Our automated Resharp machines can sharpen almost all standard straight-edge kitchen cutlery, pocket knives and hunting knives. In addition to automated knife sharpening, we use traditional manual sharpening methods at our Redwood City and Palo Alto locations to sharpen household and garden tools, including:

⏰ Do I need to make an appointment for knife sharpening?

No appointment is necessary for our on-the-spot automated machine sharpening! You can bring your dull knives to any of our six convenient Bay Area hardware store locations during regular business hours. If you would like premium, old-fashioned hand sharpening by Mark, our master technician, you can drop off your knives at either our Palo Alto or Redwood city stores on the weekends. Mark is in Redwood City on Sundays, 11AM – 4PM and Palo Alto on Saturdays from 10AM – 4PM. Call before you come for current drop-off schedules and turnaround times.
